Comets get first home track meet

After spending the first month of the season on the road, the Waupaca track team finally had a chance to compete at home April 20, as the Comets hosted Fox Valley Lutheran and Winneconne.

Winneconne edged Waupaca 75-74 to win the boys’ competition, while the Comet girls placed third with 37 points behind FVL and Winneconne.

Firsts for the Comet boys went to Nic Joch in the 100- and 200-meter dashes (12.1, 24.47); Miguel Barraza in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles (16.86, 47.07); Brandon Anderson in the 400-meter dash (54.63); Jake Piencikowski in the pole vault (11 feet); Travis Heschke in the long jump (18 feet, 11 3/4 inches); and the 800-meter relay team (1:39.7).

Firsts for the Comet girls went to Avrey Simonson in the long and triple jumps (15 feet, 4 1/2 inches, 32 feet, 7 1/4 inches); Alisa Blank in the 300 hurdles (53.17); and the 1,600-meter relay team (4:24.74).

Seconds went to Mitchell Rotta in the 1,600-meter run; Eric Bolwerk in the 3,200-meter run; Piencikowski in the high jump; Heschke in the triple jump; Mya Snyder in the 400 dash; Cassie Rasmussen in the pole vault; the boys’ 1,600 relay team; and the girls’ 800 relay B team.

Thirds went to Anderson in the 100 and 200 dashes and triple jump; Joch in the 400 dash; Fontasia Robinson in the shot put; and the boys’ and girls’ 400- and 3,200-meter relay teams.

Fourths went to Derrick Rotta in the 200 dash and discus; Mitchell Rotta in the 800-meter run; Barraza in the pole vault; Blake Orr in the shot put; Snyder in the high jump; and Blank in the 400.

Fifths went to Danny Esch in the 3,200 run and Kristin Petkovsek in the 400 dash; and sixths went to Ryan Weise in the 1,600, Christina Rasmussen in the shot put and Erin Montgomery in the discus.
