Indians stay perfect in CWC-8

Weyauwega-Fremont improved to 8-0 in Central Wisconsin 8 Conference softball play with recent road wins over Shiocton and Amherst.

The Indians handed Shiocton a 5-1 defeat May 4 and picked up a 9-2 win April 30 in Amherst.

W-F 5, Shiocton 1

SHIOCTON – W-F broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Shiocton cut into the lead with a run in the sixth, but the Indians added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh.

Shiocton outhit the Indians 6-4, but also committed five errors.

Karissa Akey drove in a pair of runs for the Indians and Kiley Akey picked up the win on the mound.

W-F 9, Amherst 2

AMHERST – The Indians scored at least one run in each of the first six innings to knock off the Falcons.

W-F scored twice in each of the first three innings before adding single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth.

Cadyn Ehrenberg struck out 14 batters to get the win on the mound. Karissa Akey had three of the Indians’ 10 hits, while Miranda Potratz and Genna Knorr added two each. Potratz also drove in a pair of runs.

The Indians hosted Mosinee in a rescheduled nonconference game May 5 and will host Iola-Scandinavia at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7. W-F will also head to Oakfield Saturday, May 9, for an invitational that also includes teams from Grafton, Horicon, New Berlin West and Sturgeon Bay. The Indians will return to CWC-8 play Monday, May 11 at Manawa.
