New London man charged with forgery

Zachary J. Peterson, 21, New London, is charged with two counts of forgery uttering.

On Jan. 13, a New London man told police several of his checks were missing and Peterson had cashed one of them.

According to the criminal complaint, Peterson went into Community First Credit Union on Jan. 12 and opened a checking account under his own name with a $200 check drawn on a Fox Communities Credit Union account belonging to the victim. The check was made out to Peterson, and he received $175 in cash and deposited $25.

He allegedly failed to cash a $100 check at Fox Communities Credit Union, because the teller noticed the signature did not match the account holder’s signature.

Peterson then attempted to withdraw the remaining $25 in the account he opened, but the credit union refused because they had been alerted the check was stolen.
