John W. Sharkey, age 74, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Joseph Residence in New London.
He was born on January 9, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois, son of the late Andrew and Lois (McGregor) Sharkey. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1963 to 1965 and was a Vietnam Veteran. On March 5, 1965, he was united in marriage to Mary Farrell in Bessemer, Michigan. He worked in the grocery business his entire working life at various stores in the area including Roundy’s, Ron & Lloyd’s and Red Owl. He loved hunting, fishing and going up north with the gang.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary; a daughter, Deborah Sharkey, Menasha; two sons, Jeff Sharkey, Hortonville, and Steve (Julie) Sharkey, Liberty, Missouri; one sister, Anne Reynolds, Greenville; and one grandson, Michael. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Julie Forsberg, Middleton; Diana Forsberg, Middleton; Alice Farrell, Birnamwood; and Rosita Forsberg, West Bend; brothers-in-law, Tom (Bonnie) Forsberg, West Bend, and Dan (Kristen) Forsberg, Iron Ridge and also numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Sharkey; a sister-in-law, Carol Close; brothers-in-law, Jim Farrell, Todd Forsberg, Dale Close, and Lynn Reynolds.
A Memorial Service for John will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 9, 2015 at the Cline & Hanson Funeral Home in New London with Rev. Greg Watling officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Full Military Honors will be held. A memorial fund has been established.
