Hawks hold Comets to only two hits

Two hits. That’s all the Waupaca baseball team could come up with May 11 in a 5-1 Eastern Valley Conference loss to Appleton Xavier.

The Comets came up with a run in the bottom of the third inning, but the Hawks answered with a run in the fourth, two in the sixth and two more in the seventh.

Xavier outhit the Comets 10-2. Johnny Popham took the loss on the mound for the Comets and also had both of his team’s hits, including a double.

Waupaca also picked up 12-2 and 15-1 wins over Winneconne May 5 and May 7, respectively.

The Comets and Hawks will meet again at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, May 14, in Appleton. Waupaca will also host Little Chute at 4:45 p.m. Friday, May 15.
