Hortonville shuts out Kaukauna

The Hortonville Polar Bear softball team avenged their only loss of the season after shutting out the Kaukauna Ghosts 1-0 on Tuesday, May 5.

Kaukauna (12-2) handed Hortonville (12-1) its only conference loss of the season on April 7.

Hortonville settled the score last Tuesday at Bayorgeon Field in Kaukauna. It was a pitcher’s duel.

Hortonville’s Sami Sullivan pitched a two-hit shutout, and struck out seven. Kaukauna’s Haley Hestekin struck out 13 batters and allowed only four hits.

Polar Bear Jordyn Brennan’s home run in the top of the third inning became the light at the end of the tunnel.

Hortonville’s Ally Fox went 2×2 and Whitney Baumann went 1×3 with a double against Hestekin.

The victory helped Hortonville stay on top of the FVA Conference.

Hortonville 6, Appleton West 3

Hortonville defeated Appleton West 6-3 at home on Friday, May 8.

The Polar Bears scored two in the bottom of the first inning, but then gave up three runs in the top of the fourth temporarily giving up the lead.

Hortonville rallied back two more runs in the bottom of the inning to take back the game. Two more runs in the bottom of the sixth sealed the win.

Megan Hart led the Polar Bears in batting going 3×4 with a triple and three RBI. Teammates Taylor Allen, Lexy Campshure, Sabrina Fromhart each had an RBI. Brennan went 1×3, Whitney Baumann went 1×4, and Fromhart went 1×2.

Sullivan struck out 10 batters and gave up three hits in the game for the win.
