Manawa Lions not just a rodeo club

The Manawa Lions are not just a rodeo club. They do many things to help the community.

At the recent Manawa Lions event, community members ate 360 brats, 96 hot dogs, bought 48 raffle tickets and took home 1,500 free spruce trees to plant.

This is just one event that the active club sponsors to raise funds for worthy projects. Funds are also raised from the sale of Lions raffle tickets, roses and a monetary donation from the Mid-Western Rodeo.

The Manawa Lions will give over $12,000 back to the following causes and community organizations in 2015: $2,000 – LWHS High School scholarships (four $500 scholarships); $2,500 – Athletic Complex (third year donation); $1,500 – wheel chair ramps; $750 – Senior Banquet meals; $500 – Badger Boy and Badger Girl.

These are just a few of the Manawa Lions Club’s community donations. Other recipients are Wisconsin Lions Camp, Wisconsin Lions Foundation, Manawa Area Community Food Pantry, Wolf River Trail, Easter Egg Hunt, Santa Land, Tree Giveaway, Wolf Walk and Post Prom.

The Mid-Western Rodeo is sponsored by the Manawa Lions and requires the help of numerous community organizations to operate.

In turn, the 2014 rodeo gave back over $20,000 to these organizations: St. Paul Lutheran, Manawa Spurs, FFA Alumni, American Legion, Manawa and Ogdensburg fire departments, Manawa Ambulance, Waupaca County Sheriff, Waupaca County ATV, Red Cross, Friendly Valley, Wisconsin Workers and Diamond Dreamers 4-H clubs, St. Mark’s Lutheran, Miss Rodeo Wisconsin, Boy Scouts, and LWHS football team.

The rodeo also paid out $480 in business decoration awards and $1,030 in parade awards.

This year the Lions celebrate 85 years of Lionism as well as 57 years of rodeo in Manawa. We are proud to bring visitors, spectators and returning family members to our city, showcasing what a hard working community can do to “Make it Manawa.”
