Golfers’ road to state to start with regionals

The postseason for area boys’ golf teams is right around the corner.

Waupaca will compete in Division 2, while Iola-Scandinavia, Weyauwega-Fremont and Manawa are in Division 3.

All four teams have regionals scheduled for Tuesday, May 26.

Division 2

Waupaca, which wrapped up the regular season May 20 at the Eastern Valley Conference meet, will join Clintonville, Freedom, Marinette, Mosinee, Oconto Falls, Peshtigo, Seymour and Wittenberg-Birnamwood at Seymour’s Crystal Springs Golf Course.

Qualifying teams and individuals will advance to the Freedom Sectional, set for Tuesday, June 2, at Freedom’s Irish Waters Golf Club. That sectional will also include qualifying golfers from the Winnebago Lutheran and Little Chute regionals.

Division 3

Weyauwega-Fremont, Iola-Scandinavia and Manawa will head to The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids for the Wisconsin Rapids Assumption Regional. Teams from Amherst, Assumption, Marion, Newman Catholic, Stevens Point Pacelli, Menasha St. Mary Central and Shiocton will also compete.

Top teams and individuals will advance to the Wabeno/Laona Sectional, to be held June 2 at Lakewood’s McCauslin Brook Golf & Country Club.

Golfers that qualify for state will head to Verona’s University Ridge Golf Course Monday and Tuesday, June 8-9.
