Comets put up big numbers against W-F

Waupaca will wrap up its baseball season Thursday, May 28, by hosting Iola-Scandinavia.

The Comets faced another Central Wisconsin 8 Conference team May 22 and returned home with a 10-8 win over Weyauwega-Fremont.

Waupaca also wrapped up Eastern Valley Conference play May 21 with a 1-0 win over Berlin, while the Indians fell the same day to Pacelli.

Waupaca 10, W-F 8

WEYAUWEGA – Waupaca took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning, but the Indians came up with three runs in the bottom of the frame.

The lead didn’t last long, however, as Waupaca scored five times in the fourth. The Indians added a run in the fourth to cut the lead to 6-4 and both teams scored once in the fifth and three times in the sixth.

The Comets outhit the Indians 13-8. Shane Olsen led Waupaca with three hits, while Hayden Neidert and Jacob Popham had two each.

Bryce Akey and Logan Bosquez had to hits to lead the Indians.

Jason Ellie got the win on the mound and Peter Nicholson took the loss.

Waupaca 1, Berlin 0

WAUPACA – Winning pitcher Walker Smith struck out five batters and allowed two hits.

His two-out double in the third inning also drove in Olsen with the game’s only run.

The Comets outhit the Indians 5-3.

Pacelli 14, W-F 2 (5 inn.)

WEYAUWEGA – Cal Hintz had two hits, including a home run, and drove in three runs in the Cardinals’ 15th win in the team’s last 16 games.

Pacelli took an 11-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning after scoring four runs in the first, three in the second and four the third.

W-F came up with its runs in the third.

The Indians will wrap up the regular season at 6:15 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at home against Amherst.
