Hortonville girls share first FVA title

The Polar Bears cracked out 18 hits and scored 13 runs in a six-inning victory over Kimberly on Thursday, May 21.

The win helped the Polar Bears clinch a share of the Fox Valley Association title with Kaukauna. Both teams finished the regular season with a 16-2 record.

This was the first year playing in the tough FVA conference since moving out of the Bay Conference. Hortonville proved they should not be considered the underdogs anymore.

At Kimberly, Lexy Campshure started out the game with a solo homerun in the first inning. The Polar Bears then proceeded to score seven runs in the second inning to open up a big 8-1 lead.

Hortonville added two more runs in the third inning and three runs in the sixth inning. Freshman Calista Schmidt hit a solo homerun to ice the Papermakers hope of a comeback.

Pitcher Sammi Sullivan struck out 11 batters and gave up six hits in the game.

From the plate, Jordyn Brennan went 4×4 with a double, 2 RBI and 2 runs. Ally Fox went 4×5, 2 RBI and a run. Megan Hart went 3×4 with a double, 2 RBI and a run. Lexy Campshure went 2×5 with a homerun and two runs. Calista Schmidt went 1×1 with a homerun off the bench. Taylor Allen went 2×4 with two runs. Olivia Baehman went 1×3 with an RBI and two runs.

Hortonville’s Sammi Sullivan struck out seven batters and scattered five hits in a 3-0 shutout against the Oshkosh West Wildcats Tuesday, May 19.

Hortonville scored early, putting two runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, and a third run in the bottom of the second inning.

Jordyn Brennan led the Polar Bears at bat, going 2×3 with a triple, an RBI and one run. Lexy Campshure went 1×2 with an RBI and a run. Ally Fox went 2×3 with a double. Olivia Baehman went 1×3 with a double, and Megan Hart went 1×3.
