Wega-Fremont softball team defeats Shiocton, Lourdes Academy
By Greg Seubert
It’s been six years since the Weyauwega-Fremont softball team could call itself a regional champion.
That was also the last year the Indians made it to state.
Whether W-F makes it to state again remains to be seen, but the Indians have shut out their first two WIAA state tournament opponents.
The Indians won a Division 3 regional May 29 with a 2-0 win over Shiocton and opened tournament play by shutting out Lourdes Academy 6-0 May 28.
W-F played Laconia, last year’s state runner-up in Division 3, June 2 in a sectional semifinal in Amherst. The winner will face Oconto or Marathon at 5 p.m. Thursday, June 4, in Marathon City in a sectional final.
