Waupaca splits doubleheaders

Legion team plays Bay Port, Kaukauna

Waupaca’s American Legion baseball team split recent doubleheaders with Bay Port and Kaukauna and also fell to Menasha.

Menasha’s Chris Van Handel held Waupaca to two hits July 1 in a 10-0 win. Jason Ellie took the loss on the mound.

Bay Port won the opener of twinbill 6-4 July 1, but Waupaca came back to win the second game, 5-4. Owen McCann took the loss in the first game and Walker Smith got the win in the second game.

Hayden Neidert picked up a win June 29 in a 9-4 win at Kaukauna. Kaukauna handed Waupaca a 5-2 loss in the second game, with Brandon Watts taking the loss.

Menasha currently leads the Fox River Valley American Legion Baseball League’s West Division with an 8-0 record, followed by Shawano (3-1); Bay Port (4-4); Waupaca and Kaukauna (3-4); Seymour (2-5); and New London (1-6).

Waupaca was scheduled to play a doubleheader in Shawano July 6. The team is scheduled to host New London at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, before wrapping up West Division play at 5:30 p.m. Monday, July 20, with a doubleheader at Lakemen Field against Seymour.
