Police find infant alone in car

PC-badge-waupacaA 17-year-old girl was arrested after police found her 8-week-old infant left alone in a parked vehicle.

Shortly after 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3, Waupaca police were called out to the parking lot of Dollar Tree, 914 Furman Drive.

According to Chief Tim Goke, officers found the child inside an unlocked vehicle, crying and unattended. One window was open about 1 inch.

The baby was evaluated by paramedics, turned over to the Department of Health and Human Services, and subsequently released to family members.

The mother was identified and located. She told police she thought her mother was watching the child while she was shopping.

Witnesses told police the infant was left alone in the car for 10 to 15 minutes.

Officers arrested the girl and booked her into jail on charges of child neglect, a Class A misdemeanor.
