Holzer, Earl R.

Earl R. Holzer, age 79 years, of Clintonville died unexpectedly Saturday, August 22, 2015 at St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston.

Earl Robert Holzer was born on May 21, 1936 in Valders to Frank and Laura (Werner) Holzer. As a young man, Earl’s family moved to the Navarino area where he was raised. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1954. Earl entered the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany from 1962-1965. He was united in marriage on November 3, 1962 to Grace M. Schneider at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Marion. Earl began working as an accountant at Bassett Refrigeration of Kaukauna for some years. Then Earl negotiated union contracts working for Central Valley Plumbing and Heating Contractors’ Association, Appleton, serving as executive vice president for some time. In 1977 he returned home to continue the family dairy farm in Navarino until close to the late 1980s. After farming, Earl started doing carpentry as an independent contractor with Brian Kauffmann Carpentry of Bonduel. After retiring, he settled in Clintonville and became the maintenance man at a local apartment building on Morning Glory Dr. and then on N. 12th Street where he lived. In his younger years he enjoyed deer hunting, volunteering with the Appleton Optimist Club, serving as a fireman with the Navarino Fire Department, and donating his efforts as a member of the Shawano County Board. He was an avid Packer fan and liked going to parties at a few local taverns, especially when he could bring meatballs, which were his favorite appetizer. Almost every morning at 8 o’clock, Earl went to the Living Room Coffee Shop, Clintonville, for coffee and to share his wonderful sense of humor with all the patrons. He will be remembered most as a loving father, grandfather, and friend to many.
