Schroeder, John H.

John H. Schroeder, age 87 of Clintonville, WI passed away Sunday morning, August 23, 2015 at Pine Manor Health Care Center in Embarrass.

“Jesus loves me this I know” was the last song he lead us in singing, over the 4th of July up-north at Land O Lakes, a place he truly loved.

John was born on August 19, 1928 in Milwaukee, WI. He is the son of the late Harvey and Mary (Lang) Schroeder. John graduated from Clintonville High School in 1946. He attended Spencerian College in Milwaukee and received a degree in Business Administration. In 1948, he met Joann (Wendt) Schroeder at a basketball game and the couple united in marriage on August 22, 1953 at St. Martin Lutheran Church in Clintonville. As a member of St. Martin, he served as an usher and an elder for the church. He was baptized, confirmed, married, celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary and will have his funeral at St. Martin Lutheran Church. John loved his hometown of Clintonville. He was proud to serve the City of Clintonville for over 30 years, working as Superintendent of the Water & Electric Department. He co-founded with Shawano utility, Badger Power, which has saved hundreds of thousands of dollars for the utility customers. He was on the Board of Directors for Badger Power Marketing Authority of Wisconsin. John also served as an alderman of the City of Clintonville for 10 years and served on the Waupaca County Board for 30 years. He always remembered that his duty was to spend the taxpayer’s money like it was his own, whether as an employee or an elected official. He was a member of the American Legion Post #63 of Clintonville for 62 years. He served his country in the United States Army in the Korean War from December of 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952. He was an avid golfer and curler, and enjoyed gardening and fishing. He had a soft, kind heart underneath many layers of what life had dealt him, including the death of his father at age 55, one child 12 hours old, and one child who lived 18 months succumbing to cystic fibrosis.

Survivors include his children: Jane (Norbert) Gebert, Neenah; two sons, Jeff Schroeder, Clintonville and Jay (Rebekah) Schroeder, Neenah; seven grandchildren: Nicholas (fiance, Dawn), Christian and Andrew Gebert and Nathan, Christian, Amber and Jennifer Schroeder all of Neenah. One great-grandson, Nicholas Gebert Jr, Neenah.

John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Joann, a daughter Julie, a son Jody, and a brother James.
