Polar Bears win two duals

Hortonville girls’ golf team defeats Appleton West, Kaukauna

The Hortonville girls’ golf team won two duals last week.

Hortonville 189, Appleton West 208
NEENAH – The Polar Bears claimed the top three individual finishes to defeat Appleton West at Winagamie Golf Course on Thursday, Aug. 20.

Senior Chloe Crusan led with a 40, junior Abby Nelson hit a 47 and sophomore Bree Downie golfed a 49. Appleton West’s first golfer took fourth with a 50.

Hortonville senior Abbey Karns and junior Halle Kalwitz tied for sixth with scores of 53.

Hortonville 184, Kaukauna 188
HORTONVILLE – Earlier that week, the girls narrowly defeated Kaukauna 184-188 at Grand View Golf Club.

Downie tied for first with a 42. Crusan took third with a 44, Nelson took fifth with a 46 and Kalwitz tied for seventh with a 52.

Karns golfed a 57 to take 11th and senior Emily Groebner finished 12th with a 58.

“The girls were able to pull things together as a team,” coach Kathy Kiger said. “There was strong play from the girls despite the weather, and they played to win.”

The Polar Bears’ next meet is a home dual on Thursday, Sept. 3 against Appleton East.
