Comets complete Green Bay sweep

Waupaca now 2-0 in conference

A steady rain probably kept a lot of fans away, but those who ventured out to Haberkorn Field Aug. 28 saw another Waupaca win over a Green Bay school.

After opening the season Aug. 21 with a 41-21 win over Green Bay East, the Comets improved to 2-0 in the Bay Conference and 2-0 overall with a convincing 43-6 win over Green Bay West.

Waupaca scored on five of its six possessions in the first half to take a 35-0 lead at the break.

Christian Overman scored the first of his three touchdowns with a 4-yard run to cap the Comets’ opening drive. Walker Smith added a 1-yard run later in the first quarter.

Smith tossed an 11-yard TD pass to Stephen Johnson in the second quarter and Overman added a 46-yard TD run. Smith’s 5-yard run with 14 seconds in the first half made it 35-0.

Overman scored Waupaca’s final touchdown, a 27-yard run, on the Comets’ first drive of the second quarter.

The Wildcats avoided the shutout, as Jamar Brown scored from 13 yards out in the fourth quarter.

Waupaca outtgained the Wildcats 230-142 on the ground andd 57-8 through the air.

Overman finished with 124 yards on 12 carries, while Walker had 10 rushes for 97 yards.

Waupaca will head to New London to take on the Bulldogs at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4.
