Smejkal, Kenneth George

Kenneth George Smejkal, age 73, of Alice, Texas, passed away on September 5, 2015 at Christus Spohn Hospital of natural causes.

Kenneth was born in Oak Park/Cicero, Illinois on September 2, 1942 to George and Marie (Rechka) Smejkal. Kenneth’s father was a Lieutenant in the Cicero Fire Department and mother was a Secretary for Sears Robuck Company. Kenneth attended the University of Wisconsin Whitewater where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Education and became a teacher at Adams Elementary School, Janesville, WI. Soon after Kenneth earned a Master’s Degree in Administration at UWW and became the Principal of Lakeview Elementary School in Whitewater, WI where he was employed for 12 years. During Kenneth’s career in Education he was also employed briefly as the Principal at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic School, Beloit, WI and as a teacher at Brownsville Elementary School in Brownsville, Texas.As an educator Kenneth shared his love for the outdoors with his students and family. He was an avid fisherman, taking many trips to Canada. He also became involved in local outdoor education programs. Kenneth also enjoyed music and loved to entertain his family and friends with his guitar playing. Kenneth was married to Loretta (Burkhardt) Smejkal on July, 23 1966 in Cicero, IL. The couple had two sons Benjamin and Andrew, and daughter Sara. Kenneth and Loretta remained married for 12 years. Kenneth was married a second time, briefly to Kathy ( Reinal ) Smejkal in 1986 and the couple resided in Corpus Christi Texas. Most recently Kenneth lived in Alice, Texas where he lived under the care of the professionals at Retama Manor Nursing Home before his passing.

Kenneth is survived by his two sons and their families. Benjamin and Leah (Zimdars) Smejkal, Clintonville, WIsconsin and Andrew Smejkal (Ashley Phillips, fiancee) of Henderson, Nevada. Kenneth had eight grandchildren. Kenneth is also survived by his brother, Allan and Linda (Hull) Smejkal of Woodbury, Minnesota. Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents George and Marie Smejkal and his daughter Sara Marie Smejkal (infant).

The family has chosen to cremate Kenneth George Smejkal and his remains will be buried in Wisconsin at a later time. Kenneth’s immediate family has decided to hold a private memorial service in the near future (TBD).
