Iola man charged with endangerment

Officer says suspect asked him to ‘scare his old lady’

Jack R. Raymond, 31, Iola, is charged with second-degree reckless endangerment.

According to the criminal complaint, Raymond came to the Iola Police Department at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 20, and asked Officer Curt Field to “scare his old lady.”

Field suspected Raymond had been drinking because his speech was slurred and he had difficulty standing straight.

Raymond reportedly pointed to a woman sitting in a blue car across the street. He said he had the woman’s car keys and would not return them unless she took him home.

The woman told Field that she and Raymond had been arguing while she was driving on State Highway 49 through the village of Scandinavia. She said Raymond grabbed the steering wheel and caused the car to swerve. She elbowed him in the face to make him let go of the wheel, the complaint says.

Field then told Raymond he was under arrest for disorderly conduct. Raymond reportedly said he was not going because he had done nothing wrong. Deputy Josh Krueger arrived at the Iola police station and helped take Raymond into custody.

A preliminary breath test indicated Raymond had a 0.23 blood-alcohol level.
