Comets win against Mosinee

Late goals lift New London over Waupaca soccer team

Waupaca posted a 1-1 record Sept. 26 at a boys’ soccer quadrangular at Waupaca High School.

The Comets also picked up a 1-0 nonconference win over Mosinee Sept. 22.

Waupaca opened the tournament with a 1-0 win over Sheboygan Falls. Evan Bolwerk scored the game’s only goal in the first half.

The Comets then fell to Middleton 1-0 before wrapping up the tournament with a 2-1 loss to New London.

Quentin Polebitski put Waupaca on the board 10 minutes into the game off of an assist from Luis Jorgensen.

However, the Bulldogs came up with a pair of goals in the second half. Cole Thompson tied the game at the 28-minute mark, while Jason Sanderfoot came up with the game-winning score in the 36-minute mark. Joey Messina picked up assists on both goals.

Mosinee outshot the Comets 18-11, but Waupaca got the win on Bolwerk’s goal 28 minutes into the game. Jorgensen was credited with the assist.

Goalkeeper Bailey Colden stopped all 18 of Mosinee’s shots.

Waupaca hosted Fox Valley Lutheran Sept. 29 and will play at Luxemburg-Casco at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1.

The Comets will also host Medford at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5.
