Volleyball team scores senior night win
By Scott Bellile
Senior night was a success for Clintonville on Thursday, Oct. 8, as the Truckers defeated Marinette 3-0.
Clintonville coach Lance Bagstad went into the game anticipating the 3-0 victory the Truckers delivered.
They won the first set 25-11, then narrowly defeated the Marines 25-23 in a second set that Bagstad said was full of errors, poor swings and missed serves. The players picked it up in the third set to secure a stronger 25-13 win.
The Truckers now move on to conference in Luxemburg-Casco on Thursday, Oct. 15. They have been knocked out in the first round the last couple years, Bagstad said. But with this year’s talent and the team’s recent switch to an effective 5-1 offense, he said this season could be better.
A couple of senior players were optimistic about conference.
“We just have to keep pushing and playing well,” Autumn Voigt said.
“We’ve just gotta keep moving up from here,” Jade Czarnecki added.
Senior Abigail Krueger said six of the eight seniors have played together since fifth grade at St. Martin Lutheran, so it’s “really sad” to near the end of the season.
Bagstad said the Class of 2016 has been a special group to work with.
“They’re a fun bunch,” Bagstad said. “I’ve had a lot of groups of seniors, but this is one of the best groups I’ve ever had.”
