“Our office is investigating several complaints involving suspicious $100 and $20 bills that have been found to be counterfeit,” Hardel said.
According to investigators, the fake $20 bills appear to be new and the fake $100 bills are more rough looking.
One of the counterfeit $100 bills had pink Chinese and anti-government writing on it.
“We recommend that all businesses check the bills with a counterfeit-detector pen,” Hardel said. “You can also bring the suspicious bills to any financial institution for checking or contact your local law enforcement office.”
Hardel asked that anyone with information about the counterfeit bills contact the sheriff’s office at 715-258-4466 or contact their local police.
