James. L. Oashger, age 100, New London, passed away peacefully at his home in the presence of his loving wife on Sunday, October 25, 2015.
He was born in the Town of Deer Creek on September 26, 1915, son of the late George and Minne (Mayer) Oashger. On November 2, 1940, James was united in marriage to Jeanette L. Schweitzer. Jim served in the US Army in the 94th Division landing on Omaha Beach. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge under General Patton. In 1974, Jim and Jeanette along with other members of the 94th Division had a reunion and retraced the places they served. Early in life Jim was employed in Louisville, KY as a painter. Later he was employed at Gambsky Construction building silos and then with E&R Construction Company before starting his own construction company. Jim enjoyed gardening, traveling, playing cards, watching the Packers and Brewers and spending time with his family.
James is survived by his wife of 75 years, Jeanette; son James (Ruth) Oashger, Shawano; grandchildren, Christine (Bradley) Davis and Carrie (Keith) Herek; three great-grandchildren: Ryan Davis, Allison Davis and Casey Herek; sisters-in-law, Ruth Peterson and Sandy Schweitzer and sister and brother-in-law, Ellen (Harlowe) Reinert. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Aloysius, George (Frieda), and Charles (Helen); sisters, Loretta (Cyril) Unger and Agnes (Maurice) Mulvey; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Leroy Peterson, Harold (Rita) Schweitzer, Franklin Schweitzer and Lucille and Alfred Strauss.
Funeral services for James will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Emanuel Lutheran Church, New London with Rev. Marcus Schulz officiating. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in the New Maple Creek Cemetery.
