Vaughn, Mildred Luella

Mildred Luella (Erickson) Vaughn went to her heavenly home on November 3, 2015.

Mildred was born August 3, 1915 in the town of Harrison, the daughter of Alvin and Anethe (Gilbertson) Erickson. She married Aber Vaughn on December 8, 1934 at the Hitterdahl Parsonage. They purchased a farm home in the township of Helvetia in March 1941. Together, they had two children- Donald (Charlotte) Vaughn and Delores (Chester) Ernst. Mildred joined the church choir and taught Sunday School for 20 years and also had a special place in her heart for the Mission Circle. She loved gardening and raised all kinds of vegetables and flowers- Zinnias were her favorite. She planted flowers wherever there was available space, even around the barn.

While on the farm, Mildred enjoyed all things of nature and the satisfaction of a hard days work. “When the days work is done and all are fed, it’s time to give Thanks and off to bed.” While Mildred enjoyed all seasons, deer hunting season was special to her. That was the beginning of an acquaintance that blossomed into endless friendships that left so many good memories. Mildred’s favorite number was three. She was born on the 3rd of August, she had three loving mothers (birth mother, stepmother, and mother-in-law), she had three different homes (her birth home, her farm home, and her senior citizen home where she lived in apt. 3). She had three special grandsons and three special granddaughters. Her faith was in the trinity and she went to her heavenly home on November 3, 2015. One of Mildred’s most memorable birthdays was her 98th when her family surprised her with a birthday party on the farm. All of her good neighbors and friends on the farm were there along with her family to celebrate. This was a golden memory she never let go of. She thanked God daily for the physical and mental abilities to enjoy a century of life. Having experienced both pleasures and sorrows, hard times and good times, droughts and times of plenty, Mildred learned to be content with what she had and knew that her daily relationship with the Lord would pull her through.

Mildred is survived by her daughter, Delores (Chester) Ernst- Waupaca; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Vaughn; six grandchildren, Jon (Maria) Ernst- Waupaca, Julie (John) Nygaard- Neenah, Jeff Ernst- Iola, Sarah (Mark) Sether- Iola, David (Michelle) Vaughn- Scandinavia, Vicky (Jason) Koss- Scandinavia. She was also blessed with 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mildred is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Aber Vaughn; son, Donald Vaughn; brother, Alton Erickson; great-great-grandson, Scott Laskey, and a half-brother, Alder Erickson.
