I-S presents Star Awards

Stuff the Bus program recognized

By Jane Myhra

Lioness Maggie Jones, of Iola, recently received the Star Award from the Iola-Scandinavia School District.

In August, Jones coordinated the Stuff the Bus program sponsored by the Iola Lioness Club and the Iola Lions Club. The one-day event was held in the parking lot of Iola Sentry Foods.

All donations will help students in the I-S School District.

“This summer we surpassed last year’s amount,” said District Administrator David Dyb.

“We had almost 33 percent more donated,” Jones said. “It is a really good program.”

Kathy Meyer-Blum nominated the following people for the Star Award: Deb Jonsson, Paul Orway, Devon Bonikowske, Danielle Elmhorst, Deatanna Gray, Austin Dyb, Scotty Aasen and Nate Korb.

“Without the help of this group of people, I would still be moving into the reading room,” Meyer-Blum said. “They keep our school in tip-top shape, I very much appreciate their contribution to our community and giving the students a clean environment in which to learn.”

According to Meyer-Blum, some of the tasks performed by this group included moving heavy book boxes, relocating furniture, recycling boxes, emptying garbage and picking a file cabinet lock.

Meyer-Blum also nominated Sharon Ehr for the Star Award because of her dedication and work with the Thursday Nights on Main book program.

“Sharon helped organize books and attended all of the Thursday Nights on Main,” Meyer-Blum said. “I greatly appreciate receiving her help. It makes the coordination of this program so much easier for me.”

“Sharon is a woman that gives it her all. Her infectious laugh will brighten anyone’s day,” she said. “Not only is Sharon an amazing substitute teacher, but her willingness to help out wherever she is needed greatly benefits our school community.”

Dyb nominated all of the members of the I-S School Board for Star Awards.
