Northland Pines score two quick goals

By Greg Seubert

Two goals in an eight-second span added up to a Great Northern Conference loss for the Waupaca boys’ hockey team.

Northland Pines improved to 3-0 on the season Dec. 4 with a 2-0 win over the Comets at the Waupaca Ice & Expo Center.

The game remained scoreless until Joe Maillette found the net with 7:08 remaining in the game. The Eagles controlled the faceoff and Jack Rohde scored an unassisted goal with seven minutes to go.

Waupaca mustered only nine shots on goal in the game, while Comet goalie Walker Smith stopped 34 of the Eagles’ 36 shots.

The Comets will host Green Bay United at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, before returning to GNC play two days later at Tomahawk.
