The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds defeated the Antigo Red Robins 49-48 Friday in a non-conference matchup in Iola.

The Red Robins headed to the locker room after the first half with 23-22 advantage over the T-Bird.

Antigo’s Matt Arndt scored 8 of his game-high 24 points during the first half, while Kristian Welch scored 12 for Iola-Scandinavia.

Antigo tightened up their defense on Welch in the second half, making the T-Birds look to Kenny Holz, who scored 14 points, including four 3-pointers.

With the game deadlocked at 48 points and only seconds left on the clock, Welch was fouled under the hoop, sending him to the line. He then sank one of two free throws.

Antigo was unable to get on the board again and the T-Birds came away with a 49-48 victory.

Holz led the scoring for Iola-Scandinavia with 17 points, followed by Welch with 16 and Adam Cherek with 6.

Arndt scored 24 points for Antigo, followed by Zach Falk with 11 and Drew Schwarz with 10.

The T-Birds will be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 8, when they will take on the Weyauwega-Fremont Indians.
