Schneidewend, Paul J.

Paul J. Schneidewend, age 85 of the Town of Bear Creek, passed away unexpectedly Thursday morning, December 10, 2015, at his home.

Paul Junior Schneidewend was born October 14, 1930 in the Town of Union near Cedar Lake, to the late Paul M. & Ella (Drath) Schneidewend. He attended Marble School as well as Trinity Parochial as a boy. As a young man, Paul worked on the family home in the Town of Bear Creek. He continued to farm, but he also started work in 1957 as an operating engineer for various excavating/ construction companies over the years, including: Lee Parker, Appleton; Schuette, Manitowoc; Mann Bros., Elkhorn; & most recently Michels Pipeline until his retirement in October of 1989. Paul was also a loyal member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local #139, and he was known to his colleagues as one of the best operators behind the wheel of a grader. He was united in marriage to Ann Malueg at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Tigerton on September 4, 1954, and was a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Bear Creek. Paul was also known as the “horseradish man” and loved prepare it for family and friends as well as sell it at local farmer’s markets. He also loved working in his large gardens, growing anything from vegetables & gourds, to his favorite flowers, gladiolas. If you knew Paul, chances are that you would have tried some of his blackberry brandy, or as he liked to call it “cough medicine.” He loved everything about the outdoors, including hunting & fishing. If you went to an auction, you would most likely see Paul in his element; “if he didn’t have it, they probably didn’t make it.” Paul was quite a character, and will be fondly remembered for the love and devotion he showed to his family.
