Norbert L. Link, age 78, of Bear Creek passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at St. Joseph Residence, New London.
Norbert Lawrence Link was born on August 22, 1937 in Columbus, Wisconsin to Elmer and Mabel (Mertz) Link. After graduating from Columbus High School, he went on to UW Stout in Menomonie, receiving degrees in Industrial Arts and Education. Norbert was united in marriage on December 26, 1959 to Cecelia L. Sheard at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Menomonie. He taught Industrial Arts at Lance Middle School in Kenosha for some time. Then Norbert started teaching Graphic Arts and Audio Visual at Gateway Technical College in Kenosha which he did until moving to La Crosse in 1980. It was at this point that he began running the print shop at Trane Heating and Air Conditioning Systems, La Crosse. By the late 1980s the couple settled in Bear Creek and shortly after that Norbert began working at Wisconsin Tissue in Menasha. He served as the plant supervisor with the paper mill until his retirement in 2007. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek, where he served as a Trustee and volunteered often as an Acolyte to the priest for funerals. Norbert is a long time member of the North Shore Craftsman Club in Waukegan, IL. He was also an active participant with the Bear Creek Lions Club, helping with all sorts of projects and was very proud to be a Melvin Jones recipient. Norbert’s interests included trap shooting, helping the kids with gun safety, and making blueberry and apple wine. He will be remembered most as a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Cecelia; and three sons, David (Susan) Link of Vienna, VA; Steve (Kathleen) Link of La Crosse, and Paul (Rebecca) Link of Cottage Grove, MN. There are seven grandchildren: Eric, John, and Sarah Link; Katie (Will) John, Kevin, Charlie, and David Link. There are two sisters-in-law, Ione Link of Delano, MN, and Barbara Fellah of Baraboo. There are three brothers-in-law, Leonard Sheard of Am-herst Junction, Richard Sheard of Columbus, and Edward (Colleen) Sheard of Sun Prairie. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Norbert is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bernard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bear Creek. Fr. John “Jack” Mullarkey will officiate and burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Beil-Didier Funeral Home, Clintonville, and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of mass at the church. Online condolences may be sent via www.beil-didier.com. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Mary’s Parish.
The family would like to thank all the nurses and staff at St. Joseph Residence and Heartland Hospice for the care and compassion given to Norbert. They also wish to extend a special thank-you to all their neighbors and friends in Bear Creek for their help and prayers.
