T-Birds wins decisive victory

Iola-Scandinavia defeats Wittenberg-Birnamwood

Kristian Welch sank 20 points for the Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds to help them earn a 76-48 victory over the Wittenberg-Birnamwood Chargers in a Friday night conference matchup in Iola.

The T-Birds outscored W-B 39-27 in the first half of the game.

Welch poured in 13 of his 20 points in the first half, while Zach Mortenson added 12 more.

I-S kept their momentum going in the second half holding the Chargers to 21 points.

Cory Fraaza led the scoring for Wittenberg-Birnamwood with 17, followed by Matt Kapitz with 16 and Casey Kerstner with 9.

Welch took top honors for I-S with 20 points, followed by Mortenson with 15 and Kenny Holz with 11.

On Dec. 22, both teams will be on the road for nonconference games.

The T-Birds will travel to Wild Rose while Wittenberg-Birnamwood will travel to Clintonville.
