Maalo, Edward K.

Edward K. Maalo, age 89, of Iola, WI passed away Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Iola Living Assistance.

Ed was born in Chicago on December 11, 1926, son of the late Ingvar and Olise (Gronseth) Maalo. He married Marilyn Kiel on August 28, 1954 in Calmar, Iowa. She preceded him in death on August 16, 2011. Edward served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a carpenter and was a photo developer for Skrudland Photography in Chicago. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, Iola VFW and the American Legion. Ed’s passion was reading and writing. He wrote a column in the the Iola Herald called “Be Still and Know”. Ed also loved nature and visiting botanical gardens.

He is survived by: sisters, Irene (Leonard) Haroldson and Anny Dalland; nieces: Linda (Bryan) Smith, Peggy (Phil) Zinke, Sue Rothmeyer, June Littler; nephews: Ronald (Jean) Johnson, Ivar Dalland and Dean (Laurie) Dalland. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; son, Kurt Maalo and nephew, John Johnson.

Funeral Service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Iola, at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 22nd with Reverend Dennis Olson officiating. Visitation will be held Tuesday 1-2 p.m. at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Hitterdahl Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Iola, Wisconsin.
