Stacey Wester has been hired as the new elementary principal and curriculum coordinator for the Iola-Scandinavia School District.

Wester currently teaches fourth grade at the I-S Elementary School. She will replace Tess Lecy-Wojcik, who retires at the end of the 2015-16 school year.

The I-S School Board announced its decision to hire Wester at its Dec. 16 meeting.

At the school board’s meeting on Dec. 14, District Administrator David Dyb reported that the district’s food service received an outstanding administrative review from the Department of Public Instruction.

“They said this was by far one of the best reviews they have had,” said Sarah Thiel, business manager for the I-S School District.

“It is a group effort,” said Mary Jo Gerhardt, food services director.

The board discussed the site plan for the proposed tennis courts, which was submitted by Keith Williams.

Dyb also presented a map showing measurements for the proposed ball field, tennis courts and parking area.

“There is potential for that type of room on the site,” he said.

According to Dyb, the school district’s first priority is to pave the new access road. The second priority is to add more parking space.

The board considered approval of the local tennis group’s proposal to continue with the construction of tennis courts.

“The district does not have money to do anything with the (Krause Property) space at this time,” said Board President Kristen Hoyord. “I think it is reasonable to say ‘thank you’ and let them do it.”

Hoyord was reluctant to consider a motion to approve with two board members not in attendance.

“I am concerned about making a decision without the full board present,” she said.

The board conditionally approved the tennis court project at its Dec. 16 meeting.
