Molested horse dies

The horse that was sexually assaulted on Nov. 29 died Saturday morning, Dec. 19.

The 15-year-old mare was pregnant at the time of the assault.

The foal she was carrying also died, according to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office.

The incident occurred on Crain Road in the town of Lebanon, about three miles northwest of New London.

The deceased horse was taken to the Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the University of Wisconsin-Madison to determine the possible cause of death.

At this time, the necropsy has not been completed and it is not known if the mare’s death was connected to the original assault.

“This is still under investigation and we are awaiting test results from the State Crime Lab where several items were sent,” Sheriff Brad Hardel said.

The Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office is asking that anyone who has information regarding this incident to contact them at 715-258-4466 or Waupaca County Crime Stoppers at 888-258-9955 or at www.waupacacountycrimestoppers.org.

The Humane Society of the United States has offered a $5,000.00 reward for information in this case along with assistance in the investigative costs.
