Waupaca girls drop home games

Freedom outscores Comets by 68 points

The North Eastern Conference has not been very kind so far to the Waupaca girls’ basketball team.

The Comets came out on the short end of recent home games with Freedom and Fox Valley Lutheran. Freedom, currently ranked in the top 10 in the state in Division 2, handed Waupaca a 91-23 loss Jan. 8, while FVL returned to Appleton Jan. 5 with a 62-23 win.

The Comets were no match for the Irish, as Freedom led 56-10 at halftime.

Victoria Nowak scored 17 points to lead Waupaca, but Freedom’s Maycee Kroening and MaKenna Haase scored 20 and 18, respectively. Jada Helms and Jordan Kampen also finished in double figures for Freedom with 11 and 10 points.

FVL 62, Waupaca 23
The Foxes outscored the Comets 28-10 in the first half and 34-13 in the second.

Nowak had 17 points for Waupaca, while Brenna Krueger finished with 19 for FVL.

Waupaca will play at Wrightstown Thursday, Jan. 14, and at Luxemburg-Casco Monday, Jan. 18. Tipoff for both games is set for 7:15 p.m.
