The Clintonville girls’ basketball team handed Waupaca a hard 43-13 loss in a North Eastern Conference game on Monday, Jan. 25.

“The girls played a great game from start to finish,” Clintonville coach Nick Yaeger said. “Autumn Voigt did a great job guarding [Waupaca’s Victoria] Nowak, who is averaging over 20 points a game. She couldn’t have done that though without great help from her teammates. Holding her to three points is a big deal.”

Yaeger said the Truckers had too many turnovers in the first half, but they still limited Waupaca to seven points. In the second half, he said players showed patience on offense in the second half and made some good contact with the basket.

Clintonville scoring: Caitie Carpenter 12, Autumn Voigt 12, Catherine Morse 7, Etta Sorenson 5, Abby Wagenson 4, Erin Baumgart 3. Rebound leaders: Morse 12, Voigt 7, Sorenson 4.

CLINTONVILLE – In the words of Clintonville coach Nick Yaeger, the Truckers didn’t play their best by any means, but they still came out with the win.

“We didn’t give enough help on defense, and we didn’t play the screens really well,” Yaeger said. “Offensively we were really out of sorts after Marinette switched to a 1-3-1 zone against us. We need to play better and we will.”

Yaeger did have some praise for his players, however.

“Autumn Voigt played really great on the boards,” Yaeger said. “Erin Baumgart came in and gave us some good minutes off the bench. Our free throw shooting really sealed the deal for us down the stretch.”

The Truckers put in 15 free throws: four each by Voigt and Caitie Carpenter, three each by Etta Sorenson and Baumgart, and one by Catherine Morse. Marinette made four.

The Truckers led 24-19 at the half.

Scoring: Autumn Voigt 14, Catherine Morse 13, Erin Baumgart 9, Megan Wittman 5, Caitie Carpenter 4, Etta Sorenson 3.
