Sophie G. Leary, age 104, of Almond, WI passed away on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 at Whispering Pines Assisted Living Center in Plover.
Sophie was born in the Town of Alban on June 30, 1911, the daughter of the late Mathew and Mary (Gagas) Tryba. On July 9, 1929, she married Clarence L. Leary at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Rosholt. The couple farmed in the Town of Belmont for 36 years. In 1973 they retired to Almond, WI. She is a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Plainfield.
Sophie is survived by her four sons: Clifford (Rita) Leary, Stevens Point; Donald (Audrey) Leary, Wisconsin Rapids; Bud (Patricia) Leary, Almond and Lewis Leary, Milwaukee; her four daughters: Doris (Glenn) Brasch, Royalton; Janice Schuelke, New London; Shirley (Martin) Mercen, Campbellsport and Betty (James Jr.) Burns, Almond; her daughter-in-law: Patricia Leary, Green Bay and many, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sophie was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; her son, Roger; a son-in-law, Maynard; two daughters-in-law, Mona and Irma; a granddaughter, Linda; a great-grandchild and many sisters and brothers.
The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 6 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Plainfield with Father Paul Lippert and Deacon James Trzinski presiding. Burial will follow in the Almond Village Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the time of mass at the church.
