Appleton shuts out Waupaca
By Greg Seubert
A matchup against one of the state’s top hockey programs turned out to be not much of a matchup after all.
Appleton United handed Waupaca a 10-0 season-ending defeat Feb. 19 in a WIAA regional final at the Appleton Family Ice Center.
More than half of the game was played with a running clock after United scored its sixth goal less than six minutes into the second period.
Waupaca trailed 4-0 after one period after Trenton Bliss scored twice and Nathan Zilisch and Lucas McKinnon also found the net.
United made it 6-0 early in the second period on goals from Connor Zilisch and Kieran Brosnan and added four goals in the third period from Connor Zilisch, Chris Beyer, Liam Johnson and Greyson Maulick.
United also outshot the Comets 46-9.
