Manawa fire chief honored for supporting military employee
Manawa Fire Chief Rob Rosenau has received the Patriot Award from the Department of Defense.
Rosenau received the award in recognition of his support of an employee of the Manawa Rural Fire Department – Warrant Officer Candidate (WOC) Jeremy Bonikowske.
Bonikowske is a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard and is assigned to the Det. 1,173rd BEB, 32nd BCT in Camp Douglas.
The announcement of the award was made by Mike Williams, chairman of the Wisconsin Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Committee (ESGR), an agency of the Department of Defense.
“The Patriot Award is only presented to employers who not only hire Guard and Reserve members, but demonstrate superior support to the military employee and his/her family,” Williams said. “The National Guard and Reserve Forces are the cornerstone of our national defense. Rob Rosenau has provided outstanding support and cooperation and has exhibited a patriotic spirit which is reflected in the significance of being a recipient of the Patriot Award.”
The presentation was conducted by ESGR volunteer Jim Yenchesky at the Manawa Fire Station.
Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a Department of Defense agency established in 1972. The mission of ESGR is to gain and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service by recognizing outstanding support, increasing awareness of the law, and resolving conflicts through informal mediation.
ESGR volunteers provide free education, consultation, and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees.
The Patriot Award reflects the efforts made to support Citizen Warriors through a wide-range of measures including flexible schedules, time off prior to and after deployment, caring for families and granting leaves of absence if needed.
