A Waupaca Learning Center team, the Waupaca Whacky All Stars, tied for a second place.

All three teams moved on to state competition on April 16 in Stevens Point.

Destination Imagination is worldwide problem solving, extra-curricular team program, where children and youth are asked to showcase their talents at regional, state and global tournaments.

Waupaca sent six teams to the regional tournament. The team from Chain Elementary School, the Imaginary Manimals (non-competitive age), solved their challenge, “A Change in Direction” about maps.

Three teams solved the scientific challenge, “In Plain Sight”, by researching and then visually representing the use of camouflage by their selected organisms. Those teams were The Waupaca Whacky All Stars , the Butterfly Warriors (WLC), and the B4s.

The B4s were recognized for their solution with the Renaissance Award, given for “outstanding design, engineering, execution, or performance.”

The Purrfect Pennies (WMS), competed at the Improvisational challenge, “Close Encounters”, which required them to create, within three minutes, a skit about a randomly selected confined space, with a news flash and a mysterious stranger.

The WMS team, the Super Six Sole Savers, competed in the Project Outreach challenge by partnering with three different organizations, with their primary focus being to help souls (people) by sending soles (shoes). They collected shoes, shoe making materials and medical supplies to be sent to Africa for Sole Hope and Soles for Jesus, and they also collected socks for the Waupaca Miracle Tree.
