Porath tops 300 wins

Two decades coaching New London softball

Calculations by Bulldogs supporter Brent Erdmann indicate Porath sat at 303 wins as of Monday, May 2.

Based on that information, the 300th win would have taken place Friday, April 29, when the Bulldogs shut out Waupaca 10-0.

His daughter Leah Porath took part in the 300th win by pitching two innings and producing two hits, including a triple.

Tony Porath has been head coach and co-head coach of the Bulldogs since 1995.

“There were a lot of people I coached with that were all big parts of New London winning the 300 games—Brian Rill, Jodi Brennan, Jeff Prey, Larry Bretl, Dave Rohde, Laura Turner, Melinda Hull, Katie Johnson,” Porath said. “I have always worked with good people and all of them are as a part of the 300 wins as I was.”

NEW LONDON – The Bulldogs earned their ninth straight victory this season with a 5-1 win over Winneconne on Monday, May 2.

Three runs at the bottom of the sixth inning helped the Bulldogs distance themselves from the Wolves. Winning pitcher Molly O’Connell pitching duties with Leah Porath.

Menasha doubleheader
NEW LONDON – The Bulldogs won 6-2 and 7-2 over the Menasha Blue Jays on Saturday, April 30.

In game one, Menasha scored its two runs in the first inning before New London scored its six runs. In game two, New London scored six of its seven runs before Menasha had a chance to produce its two in the top of the seventh.

O’Connell and Leah Porath each pitched a complete game.

Game 1 stat leaders: Mix 3×4, 1 RBI, 1 run. Elsholtz 3×4, 1 run. Moeller 2 RBIs, 1 run. Leah Porath 2×4, 1 RBI.

New London 10, Waupaca 0
WAUPACA – New London scored in all but one inning Friday, April 29, in a 10-0 nonconference softball win over Waupaca.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first and five times in the second before adding a run in the fourth and two more in the fifth.

New London also outhit Waupaca 13-4. Three of Waupaca’s hits came on back-to-back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fourth.

Ashlee Moeller, Leah Porath and winning pitcher Molly O’Connell had two hits for the Bulldogs. O’Connell worked the first three innings to record the win on the mound, while Porath pitched the fourth and fifth to earn the save.
