The Iola-Scandinavia Thunderbirds baseball team suffered a 6-0 loss to the Amherst Falcons Tuesday at Taylor Field in Iola.

In the first inning, starting pitcher for the T-Birds, Cam Gruenwald, walked Amherst’s Tanner Hansen, then hit Ben Gutschow with a pitch. When David Rieck got up to the plate, he brought a runner in.

No one scored again until the fourth inning when bases loaded up for Amherst and Eric Spaulding got a hit to bring in another run, leaving Amherst up 2-0.

Amherst scored four more runs in the top of the sixth and with the T-Birds unable to get on the board, Amherst remained on top, getting a 6-0 victory.

The T-Birds conference record drops to 2-4, while Amherst improves to 5-2.

Iola-Scandinavia will be back in action on Thursday, May 5 when they host the Manawa Wolves and again on May 6 when they host Weyauwega-Fremont Indians.
