State 54 roadwork starts July 11

Highway to be closed for one week

Road work on State Highway 54 between the Royalton railroad overpass and Jeanne Street in New London is currently scheduled to begin Monday, July 11.

American Asphalt of Wisconsin is the prime contractor for the $1.54 million project. Crews will resurface the highway. Additional improvements include:

• Installing shoulder and centerline rumble strips to improve safety.

• Replacing three culverts and completing maintenance on four culverts.

• Upgrading beam guard.

Crews plan to close State 54 for approximately one week, beginning July 25. The closure is necessary to complete culvert replacements. Traffic will be detoured via State 22/110, State 22 and U.S. 45.

Motorists can also expect to encounter daytime, single-lane closures and flagging operations during construction. Local traffic is advised to plan ahead for delays.

All work is scheduled for completion in late August. Construction-related traffic impacts are subject to change and are dependent on favorable weather conditions and construction status.

Eighty percent of the project will be paid with federal transportation funds. The remaining 20 percent will be paid with state transportation funds.
