Manawa students paint county snowplow
Painting plows was a unique request for students at Little Wolf Junior/Senior High School.
The request came from Jerry Simonis, of the Waupaca County Highway Department, who wanted something extra special for his truck for this year’s Fourth of July parades.
“We’ve never painted snow plow blades before; it was a unique request,” said Art Teacher Nancy Zabler, “and our schedule had some student enrichment time which allowed the Art Team and other art students the choice of volunteering to do the work.”
One “wing” blade depicts a rodeo theme, referencing the annual Manawa Mid-Western Rodeo, while the other wing shows a winter scene. On the large front plow is a billowing American flag.
The snowplow received a second place in the Rodeo Parade.
Simonis has worked for Waupaca County for 16 years and takes pride in his truck. He had wanted his truck’s blades to be painted for several years, and was pleased that the Manawa Art Department was able to complete it in time for the holiday. His snowplow was in both the Manawa and Waupaca parades.
