Elsie Mathilde Gurholt, 98, of Iola, WI, formerly of Scandinavia, passed away Sunday, July 17, at her residence. Elsie was born in Cobb Town, Waupaca County , Wisconsin on September 8, 1917, a daughter of the late Elizabeth (Kromm) and Adam Koch. Elsie married Carsten Jerome Gurholt on June 11, 1947 in Fond du lac, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1987.
Elsie had taught school at Hellstad and Peterson Mills and schools in Weyauwega, Fond du lac, Kenosha, Jefferson school in Stevens Point and in Iola. She was a member of the Scandinavia Garden Club, Scandinavia Lutheran Church and ladies Aid, Scandinavia Pen Crafters, Iola Nursing Home Auxiliary and the Ladies League at Iola Golf Club.
She is survived by Sons: Verne Gurholt, of Aspen, CO, Charles Gurholt, of Scandinavia. Granddaughters: Carli Gurholt of Memphis and Brooke Makuski of Chicago. Elsie was preceded in death by two brothers: Peter & John Koch and by six sisters: Clara Schroeder, Marie Koch, Elizabeth Koch, Eva Koch, Edith Nickel, Ann Ketcham.
Funeral Service will be held at Scandinavia Lutheran Church, Scandinavia, Wisconsin, at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 22nd, with Reverend Mark E. Sabin officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday at the Voie Funeral Home in Iola, from 5-7 P.M. and at the church on Friday from 10:00 -11:00 AM. Interment will be in Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery Town of Scandinavia, Wisconsin.
