Triathlon goes on despite rain

Pierson, Coenen finish in top 10

Waupaca residents turned in two of the fastest times Aug. 20 at the Waupaca Area Triathlon.

Sue Pierson completed the long-course half-mile swim, 20.1-mile bicycle ride and 3.1-mile run in 1:28.55. She finished second among females behind Jackie Hatherly of Saskatchewan, Canada, who completed the course in 1:23.4.

Meanwhile, Sam Coenen’s time of 1:26.36 was ninth among males. Fond du Lac’s Adam Nelson had the fastest time of 1:21.34.

Other top 10 finishers for males were 2. Joey Boberschmidt, Waukesha (1:23.29); 3. Isaiah Steinbart, Hartland (1:23.45); 4. Michael Pierson, Neenah (1:24.25); 5. Greg Carter, Hubertus (1:24.27); 6. Mark Meyer, Neenah (1:25.17); 7. Jeremy Jenson, Verona (1:25.35); 8. Joseph Hagen, Madison (1:26.17); and 10. Greg Werner, Barrington, Ill. (1:27.02).

Other top-10 finishes for females were 3. Cary Lisota, Arlington Heights, Ill. (1:30.4); 4. Tricia Adams, Sturgeon Bay (1:32.46); 5. Jennifer Youngwerth, Neenah (1:34.49); 6. Julie Mencel, Menomonee Falls (1:36.55); 7. Grace Witt, Oconto Falls (1:39.04); 8. Hilary Woldt, Appleton (1:39.34); 9. Maria Meyer, Neenah (1:39.54); and 10. Julie Srenaski, Green Bay (1:40.16).
