Three-vehicle crash on State 54

Two trucks collided shortly before 7 a.m. Wednesday on State Highway 54 in Mukwa.

According to the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office, an unloaded dump truck was westbound on State 54 when the driver failed to negotiate the curve near Otto Road and crossed the centerline.

The dump truck slammed into an eastbound truck that was pulling a trailer and hauling a large load of wood chips.

A third vehicle that was following the dump truck drove into the ditch to avoid hitting the two trucks.

The truck drivers sustained non-life threatening injuries and were transported to the New London hospital. The third driver was not injured.

State 54 remained closed for several hours as crews worked to remove the vehicles and the large amount of debris from the highway.

The names of the drivers have not been released yet.

The crash is currently under investigation by the Waupaca County Sheriff’s Office.
