Wolves come up short

Wild Rose wins with fourth quarter TD

The Manawa Wolves suffered a 21-20 loss to the Wild Rose Wildcats in conference matchup Friday night in Manawa.

Tanner Deist and Tommy Friday, put the first points on the board for the Wildcats late in the first quarter, giving them an 8-0 lead in the game.

Manawa answered with a touchdown of their own when Zach Kreklow ran the ball in and Levi Steuber picked up the extra points, to tie the score at 8-8.

Kreklow later picked up a fumble and ran the ball in for another touchdown for the Wolves. With the failed extra point attempt, Manawa took a 14-8 lead in the game to end the quarter.

Wild Rose was the only team to get on the board in the second quarter, when Alec Vandecastle ran the ball in for a touchdown, then kicked the extra point, bringing the score to 15-14.

On a 57-yard run, Kreklow scored again for the Wolves in the third quarter, putting Manawa up 20-15.

With time running down in the final quarter of play, Vandecastle scored again with a 1:59 left on the clock, giving them 21-20 lead and sealing the victory for Wild Rose.

Wild Rose improves their record to 4-0 over-all while Manawa drops to 1-3.

Manawa will host Marion-Tigerton on Sept. 16. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
