Run for the Trees at Jorgens Park

Event to raise funds for park in Scandinavia

A Run for the Trees fun run event will be held Saturday, Sept. 24, at Jorgens Park Preserve in Scandinavia.

Participants can walk or run a .5K distance or the two-mile trail course. Race packets will be available from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. start time.

The cost is $20 or $15 for ages 12 and under. Those who preregister by Sept. 16 will receive a brown or green T-shirt.

Preregistration is available at the Iola-Scandinavia Community Fitness & Aquatic Center, in Iola, or on line at www.getmeregistered.com.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the purchase of five- to eight-foot trees for planting at Jorgens Park Preserve.

After the event, all children participating are invited to Silver Lake Lanes for a free game of bowling. Other participants can take advantage of an offer of ‘buy one, get one free’ soda or beer at Silver Lake Lanes.

Jorgens Park Preserve is located on State Highway 49 east of Scandinavia, overlooking Silver Lake.
