Iola’s annual Taste of Norway offered a unique experience.
The event included demonstrations on how to make Norwegian pastries, vendors offering an assortment of products, tours of the Iola Historical Society’s buildings and children’s activities.
The Iola & Rural Fire Department sponsored free fire extinguisher checkups and hands-on demonstrations on how to use a fire extinguisher.
“The fire extinguisher training worked real well,” said Iola Fire Chief Jim Aanstad. “It provided a chance for people to use an extinguisher in a controlled area.”
Adults and children were instructed on how to properly use a fire extinguisher, then guided in the steps to extinguish a real fire.
“I was surprised at the number of people who have never used a fire extinguisher,” Aanstad said.
