Kisting wins at CWC meet

Rosholt boys, girls sweep in Bonduel

When it comes to cross country this season in the Central Wisconsin Conference, the Rosholt Hornets are the team to beat.

The Hornets’ boys’ and girls’ squads swept the CWC meet Oct. 13 in Bonduel. The boys held off Amherst to win by five points, while the girls edged Wittenberg-Birnamwood by six.

Meanwhile, Iola-Scandinavia’s Erika Kisting won the girls’ race in 18:51, 2.34 seconds ahead of Marion’s Delaney Greene-Gretzinger, and Pacelli’s Thomas Basala won the boys’ race in 16:29.

Team scores for the boys were Rosholt (47), Amherst (52), Bonduel (71), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (89), Weyauwega-Fremont (160), Menominee Indian and Pacelli (162) and Shiocton (213).

Team scores for the girls were Rosholt (52), Wittenberg-Birnamwood (58), Iola-Scandinavia (64), Pacelli (72), Amherst (140), Bonduel (153), Weyauwega-Fremont (196), Marion (210) and Manawa (255).

Kisting was one of four T-Birds to finish in the top 10. Joe Makovec placed third in the boys’ race in 16:57, while Leighten Fischer (19:53) and Jada Beacom (20:08) placed fifth and seventh, respectively, in the girls’ race.

Other finishers for the T-Birds were Erik Kriewaldt (12th, 17:55); Natalie Rustad (25th, 22:10); Makenna Brown (26th, 22:12); Brynn Rasmussen (40th, 23:20); Jessica Schafer (50th, 24:30); Jordan Fuhs (53rd, 21:31); and Trenton Niemi (57th, 22:40).

Weyauwega-Fremont’s runners included Duane Brazil (11th, 17:54); Allison Halat (23rd, 21:54); Patrick Long (26th, 18:41); Saylor Alberts (40th, 23:19); Zarek Hoffman (42nd, 19:57); Katie Monty (45th, 23:42); Natalie Schneider (46th, 23:46); Katie Bleck (47th, 23:49); Jacob Carroll (48th, 20:40); Mikyla Reeck (54th,, 25:57); and Chris Strehlow (54th, 21:41).

Manawa’s runners included Jody Wentworth (32nd, 22:22); Sebastian Wagner (47th, 20:26); Sierra Lubahn (50th, 24:27); Johnathon Lubahn (55th, 21:52); Jacob Scheller (58th, 22:46); Taylor Schuelke (59th, 27:59); Ayla Stiebs (60th, 28:00); Alice Vatoli (62nd, 30:20); and Anya Wilson (61st, 30:33).

All three area teams – as well as Rosholt – will head to Portage County’s Standing Rocks County Park Saturday, Oct. 22, for a WIAA Division 3 sectional. The boys’ race will get underway at 10:30 a.m., with the girls’ race to follow at 11:45 a.m. The top teams and individuals will qualify for the WIAA State Cross Country Meet, set for Saturday, Oct. 29, at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
